A shadow of tragedy drew over humanity who continuously held banners of advance as the appearance of the new virus. This fatal virus broke out simultaneously in many sectors where humans moved to. Famous scholars and doctors did their best to eliminate the virus, but got infected and died even before trying.
There was only one thing that was realized about the new unidentified virus- it showed similar symptoms with the ARCANE virus which led Earth to its destruction in the past.
Those infected by the unidentified virus showed extreme excitement, aggression, and a desire for demolition, killed others or themselves by self-injury. One difference from the ARCANE virus was that it was more fatal and killed every infected person within 8 hours. Those who were infected with the ARCANE virus could at least survive for 7 days. Fatality was not the only fear the new virus presented. The frightful contagiousness was incomparable with the previous ARCANE virus. Since it could survive and act in ultra high temperature and extremely cold temperature, the virus rapidly contaminated clean regions where viruses normally couldn’t invade through transportation ships between sectors, communication ships of regular courses, and small personal spaceships. Over 90% of humanity was killed in a flash.
The only way for humanity to survive was to close all connections with the outer world. Places where the new virus had not yet reached destroyed the platforms which were the gates to the outer world and even disconnected communication. However, not all the planets and sectors were exposed to the new virus. Some sectors did not receive any damage from this fatal virus. One of those safe sectors was the Labrum sector where Doctor Dohyeon lived. He guessed that this fatal new virus was related to the ARCANE virus. He and other scholars of the ARCANE club named the new virus as the ARCANE variant virus, and started research with data sent from infected areas just before communication was disconnected.
Not long after they started research did scholars of the ARCANE club discovered an unexpected fact. The fatal new virus existed even in their Labrum sector, but for some reason the virus had suspended animation and did not reveal itself, like germs in their latent period. Scholars of the ARCANE club could confirm the ARCANE variant virus by activating the one they discovered. The activated variant ARCANE virus immediately infected five researchers and returned to its suspended state. Dohyeon and ARCANE club members thought that this was because of the peculiar environment of the Labrum sector. However, they could not confirm what they found out. Human had already destroyed transportation methods and communication facilities for safety.
No one was sure humans of other sectors could receive communication sent from the Labrum sector, but the ARCANE club members had to try everything possible for the survival of humanity. They started research on the Labrum sector’s environment and also tried to inform humans at other sectors about this fact. However, long distance communication between sectors was based on platforms, a transportation device. Their efforts were useless since almost every sector had closed their platforms. Then one day the ARCANE club researchers found out that the Labrum sector government had discovered a new mineral which was not known before. This mineral called Holimental had explosive power stronger than any other substance developed or found. Its mysteries could not be unveiled yet with the science level of humans.
The local government of Labrum sector kept this discovery as a secret and was starting development in privacy. However, this Holimental was being forgotten by the appearance of the variant ARCANE virus. ARCANE club members focused on this new material. Perhaps Holimental was the reason why the ARCANE variant virus was not activated. They guessed that a unique wavelength flowing out of Holimental, so-called spiritual wave, had a certain relationship with the ARCANE variant virus which invaded the human brain and stimulate aggression to its extreme. They requested the Labrum sector government for help and studied the link between the variant ARCANE virus and Holimental. Their hypothesis was soon proved to be a fact.
The ARCANE variant virus which could be activated in the research lab did not react to any kind of method when it was near Holimental. Under the utmost support from the Labrum sector government, ARCANE club researchers used Holimental to develop a vaccine that would eliminate the variant ARCANE virus. However, creating a new substance using Holimental was close to impossible since they couldn’t even understand the essence of Holimental itself.
As a result, Doctor Dohyeon who was the leader of the ARCANE club focused on developing Holimental than doing research on the vaccine. His research course did not receive support from the sector government and even from his colleagues at the ARCANE club. In the end, he was excluded from the governmental vaccine research. As the researchers of Labrum sector government gave an impetus to vaccine development, a surprise occurs in an outer planet. An unknown spaceship was drawing closer to the Labrum sector.
The government of Labrum sector sent signals to the strange spaceship and asked its position. However, a destructive message to attack G-71, an outer planet of Labrum sector was all they received as an answer. Humans in the Labrum sector were shocked. The unidentified spaceship finished the matter in one hour which no other weapon of humanity could do. 40 million people of planet G-71 were killed in 30 minutes. Humans at the Labrum sector panicked. Sector defense corps set out but failed to make a single assault and was destroyed. The spaceship slowly sailed closer to G-06, the center planet of Labrum sector. It killed the humans as they passed planets of human inhabitance.
Planet G-06 was plunged into confusion and people tried to escape the planet, but the platforms which were the only connection to the outer world were already ruined by the local government. Many people used classical methods to escape, but eventually were killed by the flames shot out by from the spaceship.
Those who broke away from the planet turned into dust of space before even reaching the sector borders. Doctor Dohyeon believed the unidentified spaceship and the variant ARCANE virus were connected. As he guessed that the ARCANE virus which destroyed Earth and the solar system in the past was developed by an unknown civilian, he knew by intuition this strange spaceship was the unknown civilian. If then, wouldn’t Holimental be able to stop this spaceship with its powers of incapacitating the variant virus?
He told his ideas to the local government and colleagues of the ARCANE club, but no one listened. No one had any rationality left to listen.
The planet was full of chaos and fear. People lost their minds and became rioters or committed suicide. The management was completely paralyzed and the planet was in a state of anarchy. Humans were headed for self-destruction. As humanity took one step into the door of destruction, the unidentified spaceship suddenly stopped. It changed its course and headed toward the outer region of the sector. In this short moment of peace like the evening before a storm, Doctor Dohyeon persuaded his colleagues and accelerated research on Holimental.
As for the secret of Holimental, this new material could make direct exchanges with the spirit of an organism that can think, and use its amazing explosive power for epoch-making energy. Doctor Dohyeon thought the spiritual wavelength of Holimental affected those who controlled the spaceship. Otherwise, they wouldn’t have just turned away from sweeping away everything in their way. But his research could not be continued. It was impossible to do anything without support when even the governmental defense corps turned into rioters.
Doctor Dohyeon gathered researchers who agreed to his idea and planned to escape Labrum sector. He needed a more stable environment to study Holimental. Perhaps this was the only hope for humanity to survive. After Doctor Dohyeon and ARCANE club colleagues broke away from planet G-06, the spaceship rained fire on the planet. In a flash, their weapons turned Labrum sector into a land of death.
